Popmusicology – free interactive ebook for iPad

My latest experiment with Apple’s iBooks Author software is POPMUSICOLOGY Volume One, which looks at the origins and development of popular music.

It’s based on my Enrichment Musicology course. Of necessity, I’m splitting the course materials into several volumes, because the embedded audio and video have an impact of the size of the download. This volume looks a the folk origins of what became pop music, and has sections on the blues, jazz, and early country music. It also looks at the ways in which the new mass media of the phonograph and radio worked together in creating popular music as we know it.

There are 30-second sound samples illustrating the commentary in the text.

It’s a free download.
