Do older users drive the young ones away?

This report in the Guardian: It’s SO over: cool cyberkids abandon social networking sites refers to data from Ofcom, which indicates that the age profile of social networking sites is changing, appearing to show that younger users are being driven away by old fogies.

I don’t think it’s necessarily as simple as that. People get older, and the age profile of society is changing too, which is only going to be reflected in social networking sites as they become more widely used. Also, as you know, it’s my belief that younger users tend to use these sites for chat more than anything else, and in the end, a chat application is going to be better than, say, Twitter.
